The Color Run!

This past weekend, my mom, my sister, and her boyfriend Braxton went up to Charlotte to do the Color Run! We went with a big group of my mom's running friends, and it was so fun! If you have never heard of the Color Run, the idea is you wear all white, and go run a 5K. At every kilometer, people along the route throw colored dust at you, and at the end of the run you are super colorful!

Right before the start. And FYI, if you are a serious runner, this is the most laid back 'race' ever. You get a loose start time, and every 5 minutes or so, they let a small group of people go at once. It was hard to get pictures during the race, cause I wasn't about to get out my phone or nice camera during one of the color stations.

Little bit of a height difference there...

At the finish line, every 20-30 minutes, runners take the color packet given to them and throw them up together in a huge color explosion. The only problem is, it totally obscures your vision for several seconds, and all the colors mix together and you end up looking kinda dingy.

See what I mean? If I were going to do it again, I would make sure every person in my group got a different color packet for the end, get TONS of color during the stations, and watch the color throws at the end from afar, and throw your color packets on each other for maximum impact. Also, if you do this run, be prepared to keep your mouth closed during color throws, and expect colored coughs, sneezes, and maybe earwax for the rest of the day. Just sayin'....

One Year Later

A year ago today, Will and I closed on our lovely home!

  home

It has been a crazy year and there have been a lot of overhauls in the Blackmon home, and there are a few here to come in the next few months. So far, we have totally redone the dining room, master bedroom, and guest bedroom.

The kitchen has stayed pretty much the same, with good reason!

The hallway, living room, and 3rd bedroom haven't changed too much, but some of that is changing in the near future.

And the deck is in a state of total overhaul, as you guys will see over the next several weeks.

I love our home, and where we live, but I love who I share my home with the most! Thanks to my awesome husband, who makes all the trials of home ownership worth it!

Savannah 1/2 Marathon

This past weekend, my best friend Kristi and I headed down to Savannah for the Rock 'n Roll 1/2 Marathon and it was a blast! I had been wanting to do another 13.1, and to visit Savannah again, and whenever I get to hang out with Kristi it's a good time!

We took off Friday to head down to Savannah and get ready for the race.

Here we are getting our packets and getting pumped for the race!

And since the packet pick up was across the river, we got some nice views waiting on the ferry to take us back.

The race started at 8, but we had to be parked by 6:30, so it was a super early morning Saturday, but well worth it!

The Savannah 13.1 course was great! It had a few small hills, but most of the course was flat and several miles were through the scenic downtown squares. I have to admit that it was SO NICE to have areas that were easy for the spectators to get to. You have NO idea how awesome it is to take a turn and realize that a bunch of middle schoolers have set up in a parking lot and are blasting music for you and singing. Or that someone in a banana suit is holding a sign saying "If a marathon was easy they would call it your mom." It definitely helps keep your spirits light and your energy up! Race fans are the BEST!

Kristi schooled me in the run, as we all knew she would, but at least she was there to cheer me on at the finish! I ended up with a 10 min PR over my last 13.1 at a 2:42, but I know I can go faster than that, so back to training I suppose! I am looking at doing a 15K in January in ATL, and perhaps the Publix ATL 13.1 in March.

Bottom line, we both finished, we both PR'ed, and we both had fun! And, as a bonus we were in the lowcountry, so we got to have a quick roommate reunion with Kathryn and Leah! It was the first time we have seen Kathryn since her and Dan got engaged too!

The four of us, back together again! All in all, it was a great weekend!
