Covert Ops Part 3

While Will was gone on his most recent business trip, I dusted off the paint brushes and got to work on a project I have been wanting to do for a while...paint the side tables in the guest room!

Before, they were these crappy little bachelor pad tables. Will used them in his college rooms forever and they needed some love.

So, I moved them out to the sun room and got to work!

I decided to paint them white and distress them in order to match the white iron bed in the guest bedroom.

DSC06689

I used white Annie Sloan chalk paint so I didn't have to sand or prep the surface at all.

After two coats, I was ready to wax the furniture. My mother-in-law came over to help to help with this step

First, a coat of clear wax, then some dark wax to distress the surface. It was super simple!

Finished product!

I love it! Now, for some different lamps and curtains. Almost there with this room!

Lazy Lake Days

Unfortunately, this summer, we really haven't been at the lake for much time at all. Our work schedules have been crazy, and there just hasn't been the time!

However, if you know anything about what has been happening with our weather lately, you know it has rained a lot!!

And, with a lot of rain, it filled up our empty lakes! It just filled them up quicker than we could pull in the dock. So, the other week, this is what we saw!

What we had to traverse to get to Marty and Rose's dock.

The water got up to about mid-thigh, and the dock was super slippery, but the weekend was not lost! Lots of sun made for a great lake weekend.

Throw in some grilling up at the house and you can't go wrong!

Hanging with the Cousins!

In June, several members of my family went on a mission trip to Brazil. So, when my mom, sister, her boyfriend Braxton, and my Uncle Allen got home, we decided to meet them at the airport.

But, first, a little impromptu modeling session from Campbell :)

I love this little one!

I love these little ones so dearly. I didn't get a picture with the littlest cousin this day, but they just seem to be growing up so fast! Campbell will be starting back to school in a few weeks, and I just couldn't help sharing these pictures of these super cute little ones.

Covert Ops Part 2

So, the second part of my covert operations while Will was out of town was a project that was a LONG TIME COMING!

Painting the hallway!!!

Here's the before with the super plain white walls and tons of Frog Tape.

And the after! Again, it's not a drastic change, but it is enough to make me happy. The whole hallway looks fresh.

Love our little hallway table. So excited about this new space in our home! Wonder what's next?

Little Visitor

So, as I mentioned the other day, Will has been doing some work out of town. Most of the time, I don't mind it, but there are some times I really do. Like when there is a FROG IN MY BEDROOM!!!

DSC06651

Let me back up. I was getting out of the shower, and I was on the phone with Will for a minute. I sat down on the bed, and hung up the phone. And out of the corner of my eye, I saw some movement. And it was a FROG. A FROG. IN. MY. BEDROOM!

I have no idea how it got there. I immediately called Will and my dad to trying to figure out how to get out of my house. Will suggested picking it up. No. That wasn't happening.

DSC06652

So, ultimately, I got dressed, then added an additional layer of more pants and thick shoes just in case it hopped on me. And then, I swept it out of my house. I wouldn't have thought I would have been afraid of a frog. But it's gross little legs trying to jump up on my baseboards were super nasty. Eww.

Hopefully, we won't have any more visitors for a while, or if they do have to come back, they can wait for a time when Will is home and has to deal with them.

Covert Ops

So, my better half has been out of town on some business trips the past few weeks, and last weekend, I decided to get a little crazy. But, I didn't want to post anything. This was a covert mission. I decided to paint the hallway and kitchen.

DSC06638

Now, the kitchen wasn't on my original plans for painting in the house. But, the more time I spent in the kitchen over-analyzing colors for the hallway, the more I noticed defects in the paint job in the kitchen. Not only were there general dings and the occasional crayon mark, but the ridges in the paneling weren't very well coated.

DSC06639

So, I taped up the kitchen one day, and last Sunday, I told Will I was going to "take a nap". And instead, I painted.

DSC06640

I know, I know, it's certainly not a drastic change. BUT, it made it feel so fresh and clean that I would do it again in a heartbeat.

DSC06641

Halfway through the big wall!

DSC06645

All done!

DSC06643

Of course, I didn't tell Will. It was just more fun that way :) And eventually, he did notice. After I pointed it out, lol! But it doesn't matter, I love it!
